Submission Process

Manuscript Guidelines

  • The Journal of Emerging Sport Studies encourages submissions on a continuous basis.

  • Authors are encouraged to submit work in the following categories: research article, critical commentary, and book reviews. Please see below for submission guidelines pertaining to each category:

General Guidelines:

  • Submissions should be sent to emergingsportstudies@gmail.com.
  • Submissions can also be received through our OJS Site.
  • Submissions are preferred in Microsoft Word format.
  • Authors are asked to indicate the following with their submission:
    • The category of the Article (Research Article, Critical Commentary, Book Review).
    • The academic discipline the piece is considered.
    • The reference/style guide used.

Research Article Guidelines

  • Manuscripts should be a minimum of 5000 words. Shorter manuscripts may be accepted as well if that is the norm within the discipline.
  • Authors should include an abstract in the submission (either within the manuscript document or in its own separate document) that is between 150 and 500 words.
  • A list of keywords should be included below the abstract (suggested 3-5).

Critical Commentary Guidelines:

  • A Critical Commentary is defined as a manuscript that offers an original insight or critical challenge to an issue, event, or concept deemed pertinent to the field by the author.
  • Critical Commentaries may also apply theoretical or methodological perspectives which introduces and explores topics in a manner that facilitates new ideas, advancing scholarly understanding of sport.
  • Manuscripts should be a minimum of 2000 words.
  • Authors should include an abstract in the submission (either within the manuscript document or in its own separate document) that is between 150 and 500 words.
  • A list of keywords should be included below the abstract (suggested 3-5).

Book Review Guidelines

  • Authors are encouraged to submit book reviews of their choice to the journal. The acceptability of the review, as well as the work being reviewed, will be considered by the editors upon receipt.
  • Authors who wish to write a review are also welcome to consult from a list of acceptable works provided by the editors.
  • Book Reviews should be a maximum of 750 words

Style

  • Our journal encourages submissions from varying academic disciplines. These disciplines often utilize different methods of referencing and style guides including: Chicago, APA, MLA, ASA, Harvard, and Turabian.
  • Rather than insist on authors conforming to a particular style, we allow authors to submit in a style relevant to their own academic discipline and background. However, the style chosen by the author must remain consistent throughout the manuscript.

Peer-Review Process

  • Our journal is committed to maintaining high academic standards. Submissions are initially evaluated by the Editors. Acceptable manuscripts are submitted to independent, anonymous and expert peer review.
  • Throughout the review process, authors will be updated regarding the status of their submission. This ensures transparent and timely communication between the author and the Journal.
  • Upon acceptance of a submission, authors are required to sign a  Creative Commons attribution-NonCommerical license
